A withdrawal sleeve is a tapered adapter used to mount or dismount tapered bore bearings on cylindrical shafts. Unlike adapter sleeves (which are pushed inward), withdrawal sleeves are pulled outward to remove the bearing from the shaft. A withdrawal sleeve is used to mount and dismount bearings with a tapered bore onto a cylindrical shaft, particularly when the shaft has a fixed shoulder or step. It fits between the shaft and the inner ring of the bearing, allowing the bearing to be securely positioned. During installation, the bearing is pushed onto the withdrawal sleeve, which is in turn pushed up against the shaft shoulder using a lock nut or hydraulic tool, creating a tight fit.
When removal is needed, the withdrawal sleeve is pulled outward—hence the name—allowing the bearing to be easily dismounted without damaging the shaft or the bearing. This method is commonly used in heavy-duty applications such as motors, gearboxes, and industrial machinery where maintenance and part replacement need to be efficient and reliable.
